DIY Caramel Frappuccino

I hate Starbucks. Seriously.

I hate their delicious tasting drinks that have me addicted,  and I hate that I wake up every morning considering either a warm caramel macchiato or a cool Frappuccino. I hate their stupid app that makes it so easy to order your coffee on the tube and pick it up within 30 seconds on the way to the office. I hate it all!

Starbucks, A major coffee chain that people obviously think is the devil’s brew. Starbucks is apparently ‘The Man’ taking over the Earth.

In a bid to save money and break my coffee shop habit, I decided to try and see what I could make at home. As I still currently know nothing about coffee or how best to make it, I didn’t want to purchase a machine just yet. So I replicated a soya caramel Frappuccino using instant coffee (I know right, yuck) and my Nutribullet. Want to know how? I’ll show you here.

A Frappuccino usually contains whipped cream on top, however as I’m not using dairy in this recipe I went without. More room in the glass for all that extra coffee to keep you awake!

This is what you will need for one large glass. For more, simply add more to the mix.

  • Ice cubes, roughly 10 or so.

  • Instant coffee. I am not a coffee expert, but I used Douwe Egberts medium roast as it was recommended by a friend.

  • A tablespoon of caramel syrup. Or more, depending on how sweet you want it.

  • A blender that can safely crush ice cubes. I used a Nutribullet.

  • Soya milk. Enough to cover the ice cubes.


  1.  Make an espresso sized cup of coffee.
  2. Let it cool completely before carrying on, otherwise pouring hot coffee onto ice will ruin the taste of the beans. 
  3. Once it’s cooled, add it to the blender with the ice, soya milk and caramel syrup and blend until smooth. 
  4. Enjoy!

You can mix it up by using vanilla syrup instead, or adding some sugar if you like it a bit sweeter, but I chose not to, in a bid to keep the calories down. Of course don’t forget the whipped cream for a traditional Frappuccino. You can also purchase the caramel sauce to drizzle on top if you want to truly indulge.

Starbucks, I bid you farewell for now. That is until someone introduces me to the pumpkin spice latte that I heard is divine.
